STUDY PROGRAMMES IN DEMOGRAPHY – 2019 (English Medium)
1. MPhil / PhD in Demography – 2019
Admission requirements
(i) First or Second Class (upper) Division in the Special Degree in Demography or related field from a recognized University OR
(ii) Master’s Degree in Demography or in a related field from a recognized University OR
(iii) Any other postgraduate qualifications recognized by the University as equivalent to (ii) above. A good knowledge of English and adequate computer literacy is essential.
Working experience and research experience in the relevant fields are considered as additional qualifications.
Duration: 3 years, by research Course fee: Rs. 450,000.00 – Payable in 3 annual instalments
2. Masters in Demography (MADEM) – 2019
Admission requirements:
No candidate shall be considered for admission to the MADEM programme, unless she/he has the following requirements as per Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF) 2015.
i) A Bachelor’s Degree with at least a Second Class Pass from a recognized University/Institution in Demography /Population Studies; OR
ii) A Bachelor’s Degree in Demography/Population Studies or any other related discipline, with minimum of two years of experience in a related field; OR
iii) Postgraduate Diploma (SLQF 8) in Demography /Population Studies from a recognized University /Institution or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Arts and the Senate of the University of Colombo; OR
iv) Any other professional qualification from a recognized professional body acceptable to the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Arts and the Senate of the University of Colombo with minimum of three years learning/work experience in Demography/Population Studies; OR
v) Completion of NVQ level 7 (Equivalent to Bachelor’s Degree in SLQF) with relevant work in the field of Demography/Population Studies as determined by the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Arts and the Senate of the University of Colombo. AND
vi) A good knowledge of English Language and satisfactory performance at a selection test and/or an interview. Each application under clause
(vi) shall be considered on its GPA.
Duration: One year by coursework
Course fee: Rs. 120,000.00 – Payable in 2 instalments
3. Postgraduate Diploma in Population Studies (PgDPS) – 2019
Admission requirements: No candidate shall be considered for admission to the PgDPS program, unless she/he has the following requirements as per Sri Lanka Qualifications Framework (SLQF) 2015.
i) A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University/Institution in Demography/ Population Studies; OR
ii) Any other Bachelor’s Degree, with work experience in Demography/ Population Studies or related disciplines; OR
iii) Professional qualification from a recognized professional body acceptable to the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Arts and the Senate of University of Colombo with prior learning/work experience in Demography/Population Studies; OR
iv) Completion of National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ) level 7 (Equivalent to Bachelor’s degree in SLQF) with relevant work in the field of Demography/Population Studies as determined by the Faculty Board of the Faculty of Arts and the Senate of the University of Colombo. AND v) A good knowledge of English Language and satisfactory performance at a selection test and/or an interview. Each application under clause
(v) shall be considered on its GPA.
