Introduction
Financial Mathematics is a new subject area with a rapid development in recent years. Starting from Black, Scholes and Morton it has gained a substantial content of knowledge. Its frequent application has become essential to the financial and insurance industry. As a result solid foundation of mathematical principles, computational techniques directed towards the finance is essential for responsible and effective fund management and front office operations.
Objectives
The objective of the Master of Financial Mathematics is to enhance the quantitative finance knowledge of the graduates to an international level in the sense of theory and practice. The program is intended to train students with financial skills required to operate in an increasingly competitive international environment. The program provides a thorough knowledge in the theory of quantitative finance and practice. It is anticipated that graduates of this degree will serve the needs of the financial and insurance sectors. Prospective employment opportunities are finance director, treasurer, banker, stockbroker, financier, credit manager financial analyst, fund manager, actuarial analyst and etc
Eligibility and Admission Criteria
A Bachelor of Science with Mathematics or Statistics or Finance as a subject or a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from a recognized university or any other equivalent qualification (CIMA, Banking Exams, ACA, etc) acceptable to the senate of the University of Colombo. The candidates will be selected based on an interview and/or examination.
